Beyond the Veil: A Triumph of Love and Faith
At the age of seventeen, Pauline Grogan enters the convent and seven years later takes her final vows. At age 29, desecrated and bewildered, she finds herself back within the secular world, having to begin her life all over again.
Beyond the Veil is the sometimes shocking account of how faith survives even its own worst abuse, but it is much more than that. It is the story of a nun who becomes a wife nd mother and then, as happiness seems secure, is cast back down into the deepest regions of despair. It is a story that anyone who has ever feared for their own personal safety, their sanity, and above all the health and well-being of their children, will readily understand.
Pauline's life has had many twists and turns. The experiences of 12 years as a Catholic teaching nun and 23 years of marriage (with 4 children in 3 years and 9 months) led her to ask the question, "Who Are You When No One Sees?" At 50 Pauline studied for her first degree.
In 2005, in her 60th year, she took to the stage for the first time when her life story premiered as a One Woman Theatre Play 500 Letters. Her play brought to life some of the stories in her two published books. She toured the country in 2006 and Creative New Zealand gave a grant for another tour in 2008. She has performed the play over 50 times in centres all over NZ to enthusiastic reviews.
In 2009 Pauline received the 'North Shore Woman of the Year' award. Pauline is constantly contacted by people who are looking for new meaning and purpose in their lives. She continues to ask the question, "Who Are You When No One Sees?"
