Description

Based on a series of popular Radio NZ discussions between Kim Hill and Paul Callaghan (professor at Victoria University and one of New Zealand's top scientists) about many of the biggest scientific concepts of our time, from the creation of the universe to the ascendancy of homo sapiens. Paul's gift is being able to make even the most complex scientific concept understandable to those of us more scientifically-challenged readers. The book is in a question and answer format, allowing Kim Hill to act as the 'reader's voice', asking the kinds of questions the average reader never gets the chance to ask. In terms of the breadth of the content, this book is similar to Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything. Subjects explored include: Brownian Motion, Quantum Mechanics, What is Life?, How Nature Works, Evolution, Sex and The Selfish Gene. First published August 2007.
